Anand also unequivocally supported Mayawati's decision to expel his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, stating that personal relationships must be secondary to the party's mission. He apologized for any misunderstanding caused by his silence following Siddharth's expulsion and Mayawati's subsequent criticism.
