Himachal Panchayat Head's Power Cut Over Smart Meter Refusal

A village head in Himachal Pradesh's Bilaspur district had his power supply cut after refusing to install a smart meter. Vinay Kumar Sharma, pradhan of Kapahada gram panchayat, called the move oppressive and threatened to remove electricity poles from his land. The electricity board stated that power connections are severed after a 24-hour notice for non-compliance. Sharma had previously passed a panchayat resolution opposing smart meter installation due to consumer concerns. He has also filed a petition in the Himachal Pradesh High Court regarding the matter.

हिमाचल प्रदेश के बिलासपुर जिले के एक गांव के मुखिया की स्मार्ट मीटर लगवाने से इनकार करने पर बिजली काट दी गई। कपाहड़ा ग्राम पंचायत के प्रधान विनय कुमार शर्मा ने इस कदम को दमनकारी बताया और अपनी जमीन से बिजली के खंभे हटाने की धमकी दी। बिजली बोर्ड ने कहा कि नियमों का पालन न करने पर 24 घंटे के नोटिस के बाद बिजली कनेक्शन काट दिए जाते हैं। शर्मा ने पहले उपभोक्ताओं की चिंताओं के कारण स्मार्ट मीटर लगाने के विरोध में एक पंचायत प्रस्ताव पारित किया था। उन्होंने इस मामले को लेकर हिमाचल प्रदेश हाई कोर्ट में याचिका भी दायर की है।
