Jantar Mantar's 33-Year Run as Delhi's Premier Protest Site Ends

Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century observatory, served as Delhi's primary protest site for 33 years after being designated in the early 1990s. Previously, Boat Club lawns were the preferred location until protests there were banned. Historian Ramchandra Guha called the Jantar Mantar area 'Mini India' due to the diverse groups gathering there. The Parliament Street police station annually receives over 24,000 requests for protest permissions at this location. Recently, Jantar Mantar was de-notified as a protest venue.
