Mumbai Turns Ganpati Flowers Into Compost for Civic Gardens
The Better India · lifestyle
Mumbai's BMC is collecting floral waste from Ganpati celebrations to prevent it from polluting water bodies. Flowers are being composted at St Xavier's Ground in Parel using a microbial culture to speed up decomposition. The resulting compost is expected to be ready in about a month and will be used as manure in civic gardens. This initiative aims to transform religious offerings into a valuable resource, diverting waste from landfills and water bodies. Residents can also compost their puja flowers at home or use community facilities.
