केरल सरकार वरिष्ठ नागरिकों के लिए कानूनी गारंटी प्रदान करने वाला एक विधेयक पेश करने की योजना बना रही है, जिसका लक्ष्य मौजूदा विधानसभा सत्र के दौरान विधेयक पारित कराना है। मुख्यमंत्री वी डी सतीशेन ने इस पहल की घोषणा की, जिसके तहत देश में पहली बार वरिष्ठ कल्याण के लिए एक समर्पित विभाग की स्थापना की जाएगी। सरकार यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए वरिष्ठ नागरिकों पर डेटा भी एकत्र करेगी कि उन्हें पर्याप्त देखभाल और सहायता मिले, संभवतः कुडुम्बश्री के समान सामुदायिक समूहों के माध्यम से। इस कदम का उद्देश्य राज्य के भीतर बुजुर्ग आबादी के कल्याण और अधिकारों को संबोधित करना है।
