Kentucky Uses 5,000 Discarded Christmas Trees To Create Fish Habitats
Times of India · environment
Kentucky collected approximately 5,000 discarded Christmas trees after the holiday season to create underwater habitats for fish. Around 1,700 of these trees were sunk in Boltz Lake as part of the "Christmas for the Fishes" program. This initiative by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources aims to replace natural shelters that have degraded in artificial lakes. The submerged trees provide essential hiding places for smaller fish from predators and areas for feeding. The program accepts only real evergreen trees, with decorations removed, collected from designated points.
