Chinese Carmakers Surpass Japanese Rivals in Europe for First Time
Business Standard · business
Chinese automakers have officially outsold their Japanese counterparts in Europe for the first time in a full quarter, marking a significant shift in the automotive market. Registrations of Chinese-branded cars, particularly hybrids, doubled year-on-year in September, capturing 12.7% of total sales and surpassing Japanese brands at 11.9%. This rapid surge, from less than 1% five years ago, challenges established Japanese manufacturers who have built decades-long positions in the region. European manufacturers are also facing increased competition as Chinese brands gain traction in China and expand globally.
