Hindustan Times · business

India's insurance regulator, IRDAI, is proposing significant reforms to the motor insurance distribution sector. The move aims to reduce distribution costs and increase consumer choice by questioning the value delivered by current intermediation models. The proposals include allowing entities like hospitals to sell health insurance with lower commissions and introducing digital platforms like Bima Sugam for easier product comparison. Stricter conduct safeguards, including disclosure of commission policies and regulation of dark patterns, are also planned to create a more transparent and customer-friendly market.
