Third Malaria Death Near Frankfurt Airport

A third person has died from malaria in a cluster of cases linked to Frankfurt Airport, an extremely rare outbreak in Germany. The deceased was a resident of the Schwanheim district, near the airport. Two other residents were also infected with Plasmodium falciparum, a malaria-causing parasite, despite not travelling to endemic regions. Health authorities believe the parasite was brought in by a mosquito on an aircraft or in luggage.
