Maharashtra Village Uses Vehicle Numbers As Family Identities
Times of India · lifestyle
In Prayag Chikhali, Maharashtra, vehicle registration numbers have become a unique way to identify families, with around 75% of residents opting for special plates. This tradition, spanning over three decades, sees families using the same four digits across all their vehicles, sometimes paying up to Rs 50,000. The practice reportedly began with a farmer choosing '7777' in 1990, inspiring neighbours to follow suit. Residents can now identify households simply by their vehicle's number, maintaining a strong intergenerational connection to these chosen digits.
