Indian Rupee Drops to 95.97 Against US Dollar Amidst Dollar Demand

Times of India · business

The Indian rupee experienced a decline in early trading, opening at 95.87 and falling to 95.97 against the US dollar. This depreciation is largely driven by robust demand for dollars from oil marketing companies. State-run banks are intervening to prevent the rupee from breaching the 96 mark. Further pressure on the currency comes from foreign portfolio outflows amounting to approximately $2.2 billion this month, contributing to the ongoing currency weakness.
