Tamil Nadu Plans Advance Power Purchases To Tackle 2027 Summer Deficit

TOI - Delhi · india

Tamil Nadu is preparing for a significant electricity deficit in summer 2027, with projections indicating a shortfall of up to 7,971MW during peak hours, potentially exacerbated by Super El Niño. The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL) plans to bridge this gap through a combination of short-term, medium-term, and long-term power purchase agreements. The state's peak demand is expected to reach 23,672MW, exceeding previous records. TNPDCL aims to secure power through advance tenders and reverse auctions to ensure competitive pricing and proactive management of the anticipated shortage.
