The Supreme Court of India has cautioned that allowing every citizen to act as a journalist could lead to widespread problems. This statement came as the court heard petitions seeking protection for the rights of freelance journalists and content creators covering protests. Senior advocate Indira Jaising highlighted issues where Delhi Police allegedly did not recognize independent journalists without PIB accreditation. The court acknowledged the need for a detailed examination regarding the protection and classification of journalists in the digital age, considering the rise of social media influencers.
