EC Orders Special Voter Registration Drive Amid Accusations of Disenfranchisement

The Election Commission of India has directed state poll officials to conduct a special drive to include "left-out" and new voters in areas where poll roll revision is complete. This initiative aims to re-enrol eligible voters omitted during the Special Investigative Review (SIR) exercise and register first-time voters. The move comes amid accusations from opposition parties that the EC is disenfranchising citizens and following scrutiny over 13 crore names struck off draft rolls.
