Indian Rupee Depreciation Boosts US Stock Returns For Investors
Business Standard · stocks
The Indian rupee has depreciated by approximately 5.7% against the US dollar over the past 10 months, boosting returns for Indian investors holding US stocks. The S&P 500 gained around 14% in dollar terms, and the currency's weakening further amplified these gains when converted back to rupees. However, this depreciation also makes new investments in US equities more expensive for Indians. The Reserve Bank of India has introduced measures to curb dollar demand, leading to a slight strengthening of the rupee.
