India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged lenders to adopt a cashflow-based approach and cater to the specific needs of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This directive is supported by recent legislative and regulatory changes, including the MSME (Amendment) Act, 2026, and co-lending directions from the Reserve Bank of India effective January 2026. The Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) further enhances the capacity of lenders. These initiatives aim to provide better financial support and foster growth for the vital MSME sector across the nation.
