Germany's Largest Roman Coin Trove Found

An amateur archaeologist has discovered Germany's largest trove of Roman coins, comprising 934 silver denarii, near Wesseling, south of Cologne. The find, dating back to the second quarter of the 2nd century AD, is considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Germany in recent years. Experts speculate the coins were buried for safekeeping, as banks did not exist then. The hoard was recently put on display at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn.

जर्मनी में एक शौकिया पुरातत्वविद् को वेसेल‍िंग के पास रोमन सिक्कों का अब तक का सबसे बड़ा खजाना मिला है। इसमें 934 चांदी के डेनारी (सिक्के) हैं। यह खोज दूसरी सदी के मध्य की है और इसे हाल के वर्षों की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण पुरातात्विक खोजों में से एक माना जा रहा है। विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि उस समय बैंक न होने के कारण इन्हें सुरक्षा के लिए जमीन में गाड़ा गया होगा।
