California Bans AI From Solely Firing or Disciplining Workers; Requires Human Oversight

California has become the first US state to ban employers from solely using artificial intelligence for worker discipline and termination decisions. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the No Robo Bosses Act, requiring human oversight in such critical employment actions. Companies primarily relying on AI must ensure a human reviewer verifies decisions using additional information. Affected employees will be notified if AI was primarily used and provided with a human contact for explanations. This law aims to prevent errors, misjudgments, and bias inherent in AI systems.
