Bombay HC Orders BMC to Enforce 11 PM Neon Light Deadline
Hindustan Times · india
The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to strictly enforce an existing 1998 order requiring neon lights to be switched off by 11 pm. This directive comes after a petition highlighted issues of light pollution from high-intensity floodlights and billboards across Mumbai and Thane. The court is concerned about the impact of excessive artificial lighting on human health, animal behaviour, and the environment. The petition also noted that such lighting can distract drivers, posing safety risks.
