Nifty Valuations Near Post-Covid Lows, Investors Eye Mid & Small Caps
Economic Times Markets · stocks
India's Nifty 50 index is nearing its cheapest valuation since the Covid pandemic, with its forward price-to-earnings multiple dropping to 17.4 times from 21.5 times two years ago. Despite delivering no returns over this period, the index has seen a correction while earnings growth remained subdued. Alchemy Capital's Alok Agarwal suggests future gains will likely come from mid- and small-cap stocks, which are showing stronger earnings growth. Investment opportunities are expanding in sectors like AI infrastructure, healthcare, manufacturing, and defence.
