Kashmir Clerics Call Delhi Mosque Eviction 'Deeply Disturbing'
The Hindu · india
Kashmir's chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, along with other clerics, has expressed deep concern over the eviction notice issued to a historic mosque in Delhi's Race Course area. The mosque, a gazetted Waqf property since 1977 and a heritage site, faces eviction within six days. Clerics questioned the safeguards for Muslim places of worship if such legally recognised properties are not protected. They also voiced opposition to Waqf amendments, citing concerns about increased government control and the autonomy of religious institutions.
