Orissa HC Seeks Govt Affidavit on Textbook Error Correction Delay

The Orissa High Court has given the state government one week to explain the delay in correcting errors found in textbooks for Classes I to VIII. A Public Interest Litigation highlighted 1,678 mistakes in 55 books prepared under the NEP 2020 framework, which were discovered after distribution in June. The petitioner argued that simply uploading corrections online is insufficient, as students remain confused and deprived of quality education. The court has directed the state to file an affidavit by November 9, the next hearing date.

ओडिशा हाई कोर्ट ने राज्य सरकार को एक हफ़्ते का समय दिया है ताकि वे क्लास I से VIII तक की पाठ्यपुस्तकों में पाई गई गलतियों को सुधारने में हो रही देरी का कारण बता सकें। एक जनहित याचिका में NEP 2020 के तहत तैयार की गई 55 किताबों में 1,678 गलतियाँ बताई गई थीं, जो जून में वितरण के बाद सामने आईं। याचिकाकर्ता ने तर्क दिया कि सिर्फ ऑनलाइन सुधार अपलोड करना काफ़ी नहीं है, क्योंकि छात्र भ्रमित हैं और उन्हें अच्छी शिक्षा नहीं मिल पा रही है। कोर्ट ने राज्य को 9 नवंबर तक, जो अगली सुनवाई की तारीख है, एक हलफनामा दाखिल करने का निर्देश दिया है।
