Nifty Logs 3rd Longest Technical Correction, Yet Shallowest in History

Business Standard · stocks

The Nifty 50 index is set to log its third-longest technical correction, spending 160 trading sessions below its 200-day moving average since February 27, 2026. This marks the longest stretch below the 200-DMA since January 2012. Despite the duration, the current downturn is the shallowest historically, with the index only 6 per cent below its 200-DMA. Market analysts attribute the decline to geopolitical conflicts, foreign investor outflows, rising crude prices, and firming bond yields. The broader market resilience has been driven more by liquidity than earnings.
