A Spanish charity, Salvamento Maritimo Humanitario (SMH), has postponed its next migrant rescue mission in the Central Mediterranean until next year due to a doubling of fuel prices. The organization has shifted its activities to waters around Valencia, Spain, and launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover increased operational costs. The Central Mediterranean route from North Africa to Italy is one of the most dangerous migration paths. Despite a sharp drop in migrant sea crossings to Europe this year, hundreds have still died or gone missing.
