A 28-year-old history-sheeter, Sankaralingam, died by suicide on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital. Police had arrested him recently for ganja possession and he was remanded in judicial custody. He was admitted to the hospital's prison ward due to injuries sustained during his arrest and subsequent illness. Sankaralingam was known to the police with nearly 20 cases against him, including murder and attempt to murder charges. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

तिरुनेलवेली सरकारी मेडिकल कॉलेज अस्पताल में इलाज करा रहे 28 वर्षीय हिस्ट्री-शीटर शंकरलिंगम ने बुधवार को खुदकुशी कर ली। पुलिस ने हाल ही में उसे गांजा रखने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया था और न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया था। गिरफ्तारी के दौरान लगी चोटों और बाद में हुई बीमारी के कारण उसे अस्पताल के जेल वार्ड में भर्ती कराया गया था। शंकरलिंगम पर हत्या और हत्या के प्रयास सहित लगभग 20 मामले दर्ज थे, जिससे पुलिस उसे अच्छी तरह जानती थी। मामला दर्ज कर आगे की जांच की जा रही है।
