Chatra Village Shares Temple Duties With Rotating Brass Vessel
Times of India · good-news
In Chorhat village, Chatra district, 120 families have adopted a unique seven-year-old system to manage the Maa Durga temple. A brass vessel rotates among households, with each family responsible for cleaning the shrine and performing rituals for a day. This practice, introduced after the temple's consecration, ensures no permanent priest is needed. The system fosters shared responsibility and strengthens community bonds, especially during Navratri. It also includes a tradition of suspending worship for a day after a death, with villagers offering support to the bereaved family, promoting solidarity.
