Foreign investors withdrew $26.3 billion from emerging markets in September, the first monthly outflow since June, according to the Institute of International Finance. This occurred as a hawkish US Federal Reserve pushed Treasury yields and the dollar higher, prompting a retreat from riskier assets. Non-resident investors pulled $7 billion from emerging-market fixed-income assets, marking the first net outflow since March. Heavy selling in South Korea contributed significantly to the $19.2 billion outflow from emerging-market equities.
