WHO Guidelines: Surgery, Weight-Loss Drugs Not for Children Under 10
Times of India · health
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released new guidelines for treating obesity in children and adolescents. For children under 10, the WHO explicitly advises against weight-loss medicines, bariatric surgery, or weight-management devices. Instead, the focus should be on a comprehensive approach combining healthy eating, physical activity, and family support to promote overall wellbeing. For adolescents aged 10 to 19, approved anti-obesity medicines and bariatric surgery may be considered under strict conditions after lifestyle interventions prove insufficient.
