Blue Pond Dye Fails To Control Musty Taste In Mississippi Catfish

Researchers in Mississippi tested a blue pond dye, Aquashade, in 2020 to control algae responsible for a musty taste in catfish. The dye was applied four times to three catfish ponds, with three others serving as controls. Despite the treatment, fish with the undesirable musty or earthy flavour appeared in two of the three dyed ponds and two of the three untreated ponds. The study found the dye had no measurable effect on water quality, algae levels, or fish production.
