Haryana Farmers Earn Big Selling Paddy Straw, Reducing Stubble Burning Incidents
Times of India · environment
Haryana has seen a nearly one-third drop in farm fires this year, with only 42 incidents reported by November 2, down from 118 last year. Farmers are now earning between Rs 7,000 and Rs 9,000 per acre by selling paddy straw, primarily to Rajasthan for cattle feed. This economic incentive has significantly reduced the practice of burning crop residue. The trade has also created new employment opportunities for labourers and machinery operators in the state, making it a win-win situation for farmers and the environment.
