SCBA has filed a criminal contempt petition against Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and senior journalist Nikhil Wagle for allegedly making defamatory remarks against CJI Surya Kant. The SCBA stated that the statements were made intentionally to tarnish the image and dignity of the Supreme Court. Wagle has since deleted his post and issued an unconditional apology, calling it an emotional reaction. Attorney General R. Venkataramani agreed that the comments were prima facie "scurrilous" and aimed at undermining the apex court.
