Kerala Tribal Mentor-Teacher Appointments Slow, Raising Dropout Concerns

The Hindu · india

The appointment process for Gothrabandhu mentor-teachers in Kerala, aimed at supporting ultra-marginalised tribal students, is progressing slowly. Launched in 2017-18 to curb dropout rates, the project faces delays due to a High Court stay order. This halt follows a petition against discontinuing annual contracts and initiating fresh recruitment. Social activists worry the delay could exacerbate student dropouts, particularly from communities like Paniya and Adiya, despite qualified local youth seeking employment. The government awaits a favourable court order, with rank lists for Wayanad reportedly sent for Deputy Director of Education approval.
