Bengal Forms Panel For Hill Disaster Risk Assessment

The West Bengal government has established an expert committee to assess disaster risk in the Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars regions, which frequently experience floods. Chaired by Eklavya Sharma, the committee will submit its findings and policy recommendations within a year. It aims to enhance disaster preparedness by identifying vulnerable areas and drainage issues, while also considering transboundary risks from rivers and extreme weather. The panel will also explore safe urban expansion sites and assess tourism's economic and environmental impacts.

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार ने दार्जिलिंग पहाड़ियों, तराई और दुआर्स क्षेत्रों में आपदा जोखिम का आकलन करने के लिए एक विशेषज्ञ समिति का गठन किया है, जहाँ अक्सर बाढ़ आती है। Eklavya Sharma की अध्यक्षता वाली यह समिति एक साल के भीतर अपनी रिपोर्ट और नीतिगत सुझाव सौंपेगी। इसका उद्देश्य संवेदनशील क्षेत्रों और जल निकासी की समस्याओं की पहचान करके आपदा तैयारियों को बढ़ाना है, साथ ही नदियों और चरम मौसम से उत्पन्न सीमा पार जोखिमों पर भी विचार करना है। यह पैनल सुरक्षित शहरी विस्तार स्थलों की भी पड़ताल करेगा और पर्यटन के आर्थिक व पर्यावरणीय प्रभावों का आकलन करेगा।
