New Material Splits Water Using Light For Cheaper Hydrogen Production
Times of India · science
Scientists at Oregon State University have developed a novel material that uses light to split water and produce hydrogen, offering a potential pathway to cleaner fuel production. This new photocatalyst, known as BVR-19, harnesses light energy to accelerate the process without relying on expensive metal catalysts. Its unique mechanism involves sulfur atoms within the material's organic component playing a key role in capturing light energy. The material also forms spontaneously in water at room temperature, potentially reducing production costs and energy requirements.
