Russia's 2027 Budget: Defence Spending Soars, Education and Social Welfare Slashed

Russia's draft budget for 2027 proposes a significant increase in defence spending to 17.1 trillion rubles, a 26% rise from last year's forecast. This defence allocation will exceed combined spending on healthcare, education, and social welfare. Consequently, funding for education and healthcare is set to decrease by over five percent, with social programmes facing a more than six percent cut. To compensate for the growing deficit, estimated at 5.4 trillion rubles, the government plans tax hikes on bank deposits and property sales.
