Irdai Proposes New Rules To Curb Insurer Expenses And Boost Transparency
Business Standard · business
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has proposed new regulations aimed at reducing insurer expenses and increasing transparency in distributor remuneration. These proposals include reintroducing commission caps, making payments clearer, and clawing back commissions on mis-sold policies. Irdai also plans to restrict bundling insurance with loans and limit volume-linked incentives for employees. This move follows increased distribution costs after insurers were granted greater flexibility in 2023, prompting the regulator to address the resulting imbalance.
