Germany's Finance Ministry has mistakenly implemented an approved tobacco tax hike months ahead of its scheduled start date due to a technical error. The tax increase, which received final parliamentary approval, was intended to take effect at the year's end but was gazetted to begin immediately. This error complicates matters as new tax stamps for the higher rate are not yet ready, preventing tobacco companies from paying the increased tax.
