Tamil Nadu To Procure Pongal Dhotis, Sarees From State Cooperative Societies

Tamil Nadu's Handlooms and Textiles Minister M. Vijay Balaji stated that dhotis and sarees for Pongal distribution to PDS cardholders will be exclusively sourced from cooperative societies within the state. He denied any plans to procure them from other states, confirming that orders for these garments have been doubled. Approximately 1.87 crore dhotis and sarees will be procured, directly benefiting around 60,000 weavers. The government is also seeking tax exemptions for handloom factories to import raw materials and improve Co-optex sales.

तमिलनाडु के हैंडलूम और कपड़ा मंत्री एम. विजय बालाजी ने कहा कि PDS कार्डधारकों को पोंगल पर बांटी जाने वाली धोती और साड़ी सिर्फ राज्य की सहकारी समितियों से ही खरीदी जाएंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि इन्हें दूसरे राज्यों से खरीदने की कोई योजना नहीं है। इन कपड़ों के ऑर्डर दोगुने कर दिए गए हैं। करीब 1.87 करोड़ धोती और साड़ी खरीदी जाएंगी, जिससे लगभग 60,000 बुनकरों को सीधा फायदा होगा। सरकार कच्चे माल के आयात और Co-optex की बिक्री में सुधार के लिए हथकरघा कारखानों को टैक्स छूट देने पर भी विचार कर रही है।
