Yemen's internationally recognised government has initiated a significant military offensive to reclaim territory from the Iran-aligned Houthis. The operation, announced by presidential council head Rashad al-Alimi, aims to restore state authority nationwide. Government forces are reportedly conducting strikes in the capital Sanaa and the Houthi stronghold of Saada. This escalation follows a period of reduced hostilities after a 2022 truce, with fighting intensifying again amid wider regional conflicts. Heavy ground clashes have erupted in the Kahboub Mountains, and Houthis have recently made territorial gains along the Red Sea coast.
