Global Biodiversity Targets Assessment Ahead Of COP31

Negotiators are meeting in Yerevan for COP17 to assess progress on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted in 2022. This landmark agreement aims to halt biodiversity loss by 2030 with 23 targets, including protecting 30% of land and seas and restoring degraded ecosystems. A UN report indicates that while nearly 90% of countries have set national targets, fewer than half are on track. COP17 will focus on translating targets into action, addressing finance gaps, and considering the role of indigenous communities.
