A teenager's $3.07 Goodwill purchase of a Los Angeles Lakers jacket turned into a significant find, ultimately fetching $89,600 at auction. The jacket was identified as belonging to basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain and was worn during the Lakers' 1972 NBA Finals victory. Sotheby's matched the garment to photographs from Chamberlain's final NBA season, the 1972-73 season. While the auction house estimated its value between $150,000 and $250,000, the final sale price still represented an extraordinary return on the initial thrift store investment.
