India's Scotch Whisky Dispute: Firms Seek 75% Duty Instead of 150%

Times of India · business

India's investigation into Scotch whisky imports by Diageo and Pernod Ricard has triggered a dispute over the India-UK trade deal. The International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) has urged the commerce minister to intervene, as Indian revenue investigators insist bulk Scotch concentrates should face the full 150% duty. This interpretation could prevent these imports from benefiting from the reduced tariff negotiated under the trade agreement.
