Railway Union Demands End to Contract Staff in Safety-Critical Posts

The South Central Railway Employees’ Sangh (SCRES) has strongly opposed the Railways Ministry's increasing reliance on outsourcing for safety-critical operations. They are demanding the time-bound filling of approximately 1.5 lakh vacancies in safety categories across Indian Railways. The union cited a recommendation from the Commissioner of Railway Safety to minimize and eventually eliminate contract workers in safety-related duties, following a recent train collision. SCRES also reiterated demands for a minimum monthly salary of ₹69,000 and other benefits before the Eighth Central Pay Commission.
