Akon's Solar Initiative Reached 14 African Nations

In February 2014, Senegalese-American singer Akon launched Akon Lighting Africa to bring electricity to rural communities. The initiative aimed to provide power to one million households using solar solutions, including streetlights and home kits. Within a year, by August 2014, the project had successfully installed solar power in 14 African countries. This rapid expansion provided electricity to villages, schools, and health centers, addressing critical needs beyond just lighting.
