Man Loses Rs 1.7 Lakh After Downloading Free TV App

A 44-year-old man in Mangaluru lost Rs 1,78,191 to a cyber scam after downloading a malicious app advertised on Facebook. The app, "XM tv," promised free access to television channels but installed a harmful APK file. This granted fraudsters unauthorized access to his bank accounts, leading to multiple UPI transactions between and 17. The victim discovered the fraud when checking his depleted account balance. A formal complaint has been filed with the Mangaluru CEN police.

मंगलुरु में 44 साल के एक व्यक्ति ने Facebook पर विज्ञापन देखकर एक खतरनाक ऐप डाउनलोड करने के बाद ₹1,78,191 गंवा दिए। "XM tv" नाम के इस ऐप से टीवी चैनल फ्री देखने का वादा किया गया था, लेकिन इसने एक हानिकारक APK फाइल इंस्टॉल कर दी। इससे जालसाजों को उसके बैंक खातों तक अनधिकृत पहुंच मिल गई, जिसके चलते 17 तारीख को कई UPI ट्रांज़ैक्शन हुए। जब पीड़ित ने अपने खाते का कम बैलेंस देखा तो उसे इस धोखाधड़ी का पता चला। मंगलुरु CEN पुलिस में औपचारिक शिकायत दर्ज करा दी गई है।
