Karnataka Govt To Outsource Regulatory Functions Due To Staff Shortage

The Hindu · india

The Karnataka government has decided to outsource regulatory functions, including inspections and certifications, in three key departments due to a shortage of staff. These departments are Labour, Health and Family Welfare, and Food and Civil Supplies. This move aligns with recommendations from the Karnataka Administrative Reforms Commission-2, which suggested using third-party agencies where inspector numbers are insufficient. While outsourcing tasks like verification, statutory powers for inspection, sampling, seizure, and prosecution will remain with government officials. This aims to allow officials to focus on more targeted, risk-based inspections.
