The US Federal Reserve has raised interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point to combat persistent inflation, driven by soaring fuel prices amid the US-Iran war. This marks the first rate hike in over three years. The Fed aims to return inflation to its 2 percent goal, despite economic activity expanding at a solid pace. Consumer prices jumped 0.4 percent in August, with annual inflation at 3.4 percent.
