Karnataka CM Announces Tulu As Second Administrative Language

Times of India · politics

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced on Friday that Tulu will be recognised as an additional administrative language in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. This decision fulfills a long-standing demand from the region's native Tulu speakers, numbering over 18 lakh according to the 2011 census. The move is politically significant as coastal Karnataka is a BJP stronghold, with the party winning most seats in the last assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
