Canadian publisher Boreal has severed ties with best-selling Haitian-Canadian writer Thelyson Orelien after confirming he used artificial intelligence in his novel, "It Was Either That or Die." The publisher investigated allegations and found AI tags in document metadata, despite Orelien's previous denials. France's Goncourt Prize removed the novel from its shortlist after AI detection indicated computer-generated text. Orelien stated he used AI for historical research and foreign idioms, not sentence creation.
