Uttar Pradesh Mandates BIS Certification for Packaged Water Manufacturers

Hindustan Times · health

FSDA has made Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification mandatory for all packaged drinking and mineral water manufacturers. This decision follows laboratory tests revealing that nearly 78% of collected water samples failed quality norms, with 176 declared unsafe for consumption. Existing units must obtain BIS certification by March 31, 2027, or face licence suspension. The move aims to enhance public health by ensuring the safety and quality of packaged water, a common source of drinking water for consumers.
